“Mary, Did You Know…? ” – V Galatians 4:4-6

(All Scripture is from the New King James Version unless otherwise indicated)

But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent
forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
to redeem those who were under the law, that we might
receive the adoption as sons. And because you are
sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into
your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” (Galatians
     4:4 through 6).

It was the fullness of time when Mary brought the baby Jesus into the world. It was just the right time for the Messiah to make His entry into humanity! I’m sure Mary had questions, and the modern classic by Mark Lowry puts forth those queries Jesus mother might have had about her divine Son!

Once again, here are the lyrics of “Mary Did You Know…?”

     Mary did you know
That your baby boy will one day walk on water?
     Mary did you know
That your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?
     Did you know
That your baby boy has come to make you new?
     This child that you've delivered
     Will soon deliver you!

     Mary did you know
That your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
     Mary did you know
That your baby boy will calm a storm with His hand?
     Did you know
That your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
And when you kiss your little baby
You've kissed the face of God!

     Mary, did you know?
     The blind will see!
     The deaf will hear!
And the dead will live again!
     The lame will leap!
     The dumb will speak
     The praises of the Lamb!

     Mary did you know
That your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
     Mary did you know
That your baby boy will one day rule the nations?
     Did you know
That your baby boy is heaven's perfect Lamb?
     This sleeping child you're holding
     Is the Great I Am!

     Oh, Mary, did you know?

We are on the last stanza, so let’s begin to finish this series:

  • Mary did you know That your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
✡ Isaiah 9:6 and 7 is the main prophesy that shows
Jesus as the Lord of all creation:

For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and to establish it with judgment and justice
From this time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

The fulfillments in the New Testament are several.
Here is perhaps the main one, Colosians 1:15 through
       17:

He [Jesus] is the image of the invisible God,
the firstborn over all creation. For by Him
all things were created that are in heaven
and that are on earth, visible and invisible,
whether thrones or dominions or principali-
ties or powers. All things were created
through Him and for Him. And He is before
all things, and in Him all things consist.
  • Mary did you know That your baby boy will one day rule the nations?
✡ There is a great prophesy in Psalm 2:6 through 12,
in which God the Father says to the rebellious
        nations...

“Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of
Zion. I will declare the decree: The Lord
has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, today I
have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will
give You the nations for Your inheritance,
and the ends of the earth for Your posses-
sion. You shall break them with a rod of
iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a
potter's vessel.’” Now therefore, be wise,
O kings; be instructed, you judges of the
earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and re-
joice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest
He be angry, And you perish in the way,
when His wrath is kindled but a little.
Blessed are all those who put their trust
           in Him.

✞ This prophesy is fulfilled in the New Testament. Here are two fulfillments:

       ➔ In Ephesians 1:20 through 22 (International
Standard Version), Paul writes about Jesus’
            power and authority: The Father...

...raised Him from the dead and seated
Him at His right hand in the heavenly
realm. He is far above every ruler,
               authority, power, dominion, and every
name that can be named, not only in the
present age but also in the one to come.
God has put everything under the Mes-
siah's feet and has made Him the head
of everything for the good of the church
....The seventh angel in Revelation 11:15 an-
nounced, “The kingdoms of this world have
become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His
Christ, and He shall reign forever and
            ever!”

Yes, Mary…know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation!

  • Did you know That your baby boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb?
See the prophesies and fulfillments concerning the
Passover Lamb in the previous Gem, “Mary Did You
     Know...?” – IV
  • Did you know…This sleeping child you’re holding Is the Great I Am!
...the Great I Am!I AMis the name God pro-
claimed for Himself in Exodus 3:13 through 15,
when He commissioned Moses to lead the Israel-
        ites out of Egypt!

...Moses said to God “...when I come to
the children of Israel...and they say to
me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say
to them?” Then God said to Moses, “I AM
WHO I AM....Thus you shall say to the
children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to
you.’ ...This is My name forever....”

Most Bible scholars recognize that seven times
in the gospel of John Jesus fulfilled this Exodus
three prophesy, identifying Himself asI am...:

➔ John 6:35 – “I am the bread of life.”
            (See also John 6:41, 48).

➔ John 8:12 – “I am the light of the world.”
            (See also John 9:5).

       ➔ John 10:9 – “I am the door.”
            (See also John 9:7).

       ➔ John 10:11 – “I am the good shepherd.”
            (See also John 10:14).

➔ John 11:25 – “I am the resurrection and the
            life.”

➔ John 14:6 – “I am the way, the truth, and
            the life.”

➔ John 15:5 – “I am the true vine.... But I see three more times, all in John chap-
ter 8. And these three are VERY important! I
will quote all three from The Literal Trans-
lation of the Holy Bible, because several
versions, including The New King James Ver-
sion, add an italicized ‘He’ after ‘I am!
Any italicized word in a Bible translation
has been added, and is not in the original
manuscript! This was done to help the reader
to better understand the passage. However,
it confuses the understanding of the origi-
       nal words and their intent!

➔ John 8:24 – Jesus said to the unbe-
            lieving Jews,Therefore, I said to
you that you will die in your sins.
For if you do not believe that I AM,
you will die in your sins.”

➔ John 8:28 – “Then Jesus said to them,
‘When you lift up the Son of Man [in
crucifixion], then you will know that
            I AM...’”

       ➔ John 8:56 through 58:

               “Your father Abraham leaped for
joy that he should see My day,
and he saw, and rejoiced.” Then
the Jews said to Him, “You do
not yet have fifty years, and
               have You seen Abraham?” Jesus
said to them, “Truly, truly, I
say to you, Before Abraham came
               to be, I AM!”
  • Oh, Mary, did you know? She was brought up in a culture that emphasized the Scriptures. So had she posed these questions in the lyrics of “Mary Did You Know…?” she most likely did know at least some of the answers to these questions!

Yes, Mary…the sleeping child you’re holding is the Great I AM!

Now, the question is…

Do YOU know the truths
put forth in this provocative modern classic?
